A 2-day deep freeze in mid-March killed off the forsythia, magnolia and redbud blooms, then more recently another frost nipped the azaleas. All along we're in a bone-dry spell. Consequently spring has been a bit more somber looking this year -- but progresses nonetheless Surprisingly, it has turned into the "year of the dogwood."

Winter Slam!!
A storm of sleet and frozen rain left us with a solid sheet of ice. [Needed spiked soles of the boots to walk anywhere] This weekend it was topped with about 5 inches of fluffy snow and bitter cold windy conditions. Quite nice for X-country skiing and snowshoes. Looks pretty, but deceiving.
